Advantages of wrap around labels over other labeling techniques

Labeling is an important part of the product design. It is the surface where all the information related to the product will be displayed. The mandatory rules of product description will have to be followed by all manufacturing industries. One of the most efficient techniques used in different industries is a wrap around label. This type of label, as the name suggests, is wrapped around a product and contains all the necessary information.

Benefits of wrap-around labels

Innovative labeling techniques are used to provide an excellent look to the product design. One such technique is In-Mold Label technique. This type of labeling is done for a range of products. In most cases, wrapping around labeling techniques takes less time and provides more efficiency in terms of productivity.

1.      More space for information and branding

Wrap around labeling is a unique way to deliver an extra amount of space for product information. There is no need to cut the labeling material. The wrap around labels are designed, printed, and then directly used on the products to cater to the needs.

2.                  No creasing

It is ideal for smaller products, round products, cylindrical products, etc. A Wrap around label will not form any crease and distort the product information provided. This labeling technique adheres to the industry standards and provides a crease-free labeling process for quick operations. There is no violation of the labeling laws when you use such kind of labeling.

3.                  Anti-static property

Another benefit of using this type of labeling technique is to avoid static curling. Due to the accumulation of charges in the labeling material, they curl before pasting and cause improper labeling of the products. A wrap around label does not cause any such problem. In fact, this type of labeling can also resist erosion and remain intact during logistics and storing.

Verdict

An In-Mold Label is used for products that have a flat surface. The process becomes much easier and productive. When it comes to cylindrical products, you will find wrap labeling technique is ideal. The features of the products remain intact and the information is displayed accordingly.

Facts & Facets to Learn about BOPP Films

Being a variant of polypropylene or PP, BOPP implies biaxially-oriented polypropylene. It’s a printing surface that can be manufactured into stickers, labels, textiles, and a slew of plastic materials and parts.

BOPP is polypropylene, which is stretched flat. It is oriented with the system stretching in two directions. Thus, the biaxially-oriented or BO becomes a part of BOPP. Three common processes can be practiced to make BOPP –simultaneous tenter frame orientation, double bubble process, and tenter frame sequential process.

Common Applications of BOPP Films

BOPP holds the importance to have PP plastic’s properties like ruggedness, moisture resistance, fatigue resistance, low toxicity, flexible finishing, and controllable transparency (or translucency). They make easily-printable and long-lasting stickers & labels, while the off-the-shelf adhesives cannot get attached to the material. It’s perfect for food-safe and long-lasting labels. Mentioned below are the common applications of BOPP films:

       Food packaging labels

       Plastic ropes

       Containers

       Medical-grade plastics

       Performance textiles

       Laboratory items

Reasons Why BOPP Is Great for Labels

Without decorating, these BOPP labels can be immersed in the ice-water and even subjected to high-humidity. BOPP Labels made are extremely tough, and materials provide outstanding resistance to fatigue in comparison to other label materials. These labels comprise an unusual resistance to bases, acids, and solvents.

BOPP films are made metal-colored, white, or even crystal clear. The ability to create clear BOPP films results in transparent label creations. In this manner, the content becomes clearer to get viewed. BOPP films can also build waterproof labels, provided the right use of inks & adhesives.

For food packaging, BOPP offers a host of advantages. Besides being non-toxic, the material is resistant to acids and solvents. Many beverage and food items are acidic, including tomatoes, coffee, citrus, etc. Although these items don’t come in contact with labels in general, they have limited contacts during the manufacturing process. With BOPP films, this issue gets mitigated. Besides, using BOPP films for biscuit packaging is extremely environment-friendly.

BOPP films have acquired critical acclaims from both end-users as well as manufacturers. Currently, it has garnered momentum in the packaging arena of the 21st century.

It is worth noticing that plastic films may differ by color and resin for any of these categories; it can even be made of one coating of plastic or up to ten coats according to the packaging requirement.

PET Films are an essential choice for packaging. The plastics may have different materials such as aluminum or paper if there is a need for that particular property.

The plastics mainly used in the packaging have a diverse portfolio, and each one has its specialties. Let's have a look at some of the common types.

1. PVC

PVC film is used in a stretch wrap (although in minimal quantities) and pallet wrap, shrink wrap (in meager quantities), certain bags and liners, duct tape, stickers, blood bags, and IV. bags

It is also used for the packaging of fresh red meat. It is semi-permeable because, as already stated, it only allows sufficient oxygen to go into the film to make the meat fresh and keep its shiny red color. PVC film is also a good oil and grease barrier. It is punch-resistant and has excellent clinging and excellent clarity.

2. PET

Chemically treated PET film is usually found for non-food applications such as film photography, x-ray, and magnetic audio and video capture. It is often used in photovoltaic, overhead, jet-film, and typically laminated items such as business cards and luggage.

Its primary packaging use, however, is metallic and in microwave packs, brick packs, and medical packaging (e.g., sterile wraps and pull-out packs, lidding material) packaging. It is also used in cigarette and tobacco packaging, as well as the stickers for the same.

Conclusion

PET is used for such applications because it has excellent mechanical characteristics such as toughness and rigidity, as well as excellent thermal characteristics, which can resist higher processing temperatures than certain other resins. PET Films also can be clear or pigmented, which is advantageous in specific applications.

Understanding the In-Mold label printing process

Designing is an essential part of a product to enhance the value of the products. More than the value addition, being a label, they convey the vital information to the consumers, such as instructions, key ingredients, and sometimes a message from the brand.

There are several label techniques available in the market. In-molding is one of the favorites for various types of packaging. There are three types of in-mold label printing processesLet's have a look at these types in-depth:

The most common form of mold thermoplastics or thermosetting polymers is injection molding. The manufacturers inject heated and liquefied plastics or polymers into a mold during this process. The mold usually has a small hole or a hole by which the injection occurs. The mold will cool down as the plastic takes form after the injection process is completed.

A lot of plastic containers are formed using this technique. Tubes used for the fruits and skin cream are typical examples of products that use injection molding and in-mold labels.

The same process is often used for smaller plastic paint buckets. This manufacturing technology also utilizes keyboards and cell phone keypads.

1. Blow Molding

Blow molding suits for hollow plastic parts. The blow molding is the process of putting the extruded plastic into the hollow tube. The hollow tube may be squeezed into the form of the mold, and the air is forced into the hollow tube. There is a polypropylene sheet printed on the mold's inner wall once the things cool down, labeling prints into the mold.

2. Thermoforming

Thermoforming for In-Mold Label is slightly different from other printing procedures. In this procedure, the plastic sheets are used by producers. A tool is used in forming containers in the form of plastic sheets. The pre-printed mark follows the plastic sheets here throughout the shaping process. The heated sheets are printed into a mold, and the printed label and the plastic sheet are applied together at this point.

Conclusion

Other than these standard printing methods, there are other methods, such as a pressure-sensitive label. This method allows additional features such as scratch 'n sniff and textures, etc.

Industrial Applications of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate)

(PET) polyester or polyethylene is an advanced, crystal-clear thermoplastic made of ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT). It is higher in tensile power, outstanding dimensional durability, low humidity intake, and reasonable physical preservation across a relatively large spectrum of temperature in contrast with other popular plastic films.

PET Films also offers excellent UV resistance, excellent electricity, excellent visual clarity, high gloss, and a good gas barrier, but only a moderate humidity barrier. This is the ideal film for quality printing and lamination as well as for high-performance sheets and plastic films. The melting point is relatively high, which makes it suitable for applications requiring high-temperature sterilization.

Characteristics to consider to be used in industry

In certain applications with a long product shelf life, PET can be metalized which contributes to improved gas-barrier properties. PET film is suitable for a broad range of commercial, automotive, and electronic applications. In several specific uses, it is completely recyclable and can be re-processed conveniently into many other items.

However, Pearlized Film does not quickly decompose, unlike paper and other cellulose products. However, biodegradable additives are available which improve the biodegradation without affecting the physical properties of this plastic.

Despite its higher price, BOPET has found many high volume applications that require this stronger and dimensionally stable film. A major drawback of BOPET is the higher manufacturing costs and higher capital investment in equipment.

BOPET finds several high volume applications, given its increased price, which allows this film to be stronger and more compact in measurements. BOPET's main drawback is higher manufacturing costs and decreased infrastructure capital spending.

Application in industry

For more demanding applications in food and non-food films, PET is usually an excellent choice. Microwave, plastic packaging, backing paper, plastic sheet, protective coatings, such as solar and safety window films, release films, insulation films for transformers and versatile circuits are the main applications. The PET can be a barrier film and is used often (for example, coffee, and tobacco packaging).

Conclusion

Because of its low odor, strong chemical tolerance, and inertness, a significant range of PET grades are ideal for FDA applications.

Corona treated PET film is marketed in various forms, thicknesses, widths, and properties customized for particular applications.
